Siria, Nunzio vaticano: Non dimenticate suor Rima e le centinaia di vittime di questa guerra

La religiosa è rimasta coinvolta nell'attentato dello scorso 15 gennaio all'Università di Aleppo. Finora il suo corpo non è stato ancora ritrovato. Appartenente all'ordine delle suore Maestre di S. Dorotea, suor Rima era nata ad Aleppo e da anni era impegnata nella missione cristiana fra i giovani dell'ateneo e in opere di carità. La mattina della sua scomparsa aveva pregato il Signore di prendere la sua vita per alleviare le sofferenze della popolazione siriana. Mons. Mario Zenari: "La religiosa è una delle tante vite spezzate da questa carneficina".

Damasco (AsiaNews) - Suor Rima, 40 anni, siriana di Aleppo, era una religiosa delle Suore Maestre di S. Dorotea-Figlie dei Sacri Cuori. Insieme a un'altra consorella di origini italiane, portava avanti il lavoro di missione cristiana fra i giovani, gestendo un convitto per studentesse, situato a pochi metri dall'Università di Aleppo. Lo scorso 15 gennaio, la religiosa è rimasta vittima nell'attentato all'ateneo costato la vita a 87 persone e rivendicato dagli estremisti islamici. Fino ad ora il suo corpo non è stato ancora ritrovato. A confermare la sua scomparsa è mons. Mario Zenari, nunzio vaticano a Damasco.

Il prelato racconta che le due religiose erano ormai le uniche suore dorotee rimaste nel convento. Le altre quattro erano state richiamate in Italia alcuni mesi fa per ragioni di sicurezza. Insieme alla consorella, suor Rima condivideva le sofferenze di questa guerra. Nonostante la paura, il freddo e il rischio di morire sotto i bombardamenti, esse visitavano ogni giorno le famiglie del quartiere, cristiane e musulmane, offrendo ospitalità e aiuto spirituale agli sfollati della guerra, soprattutto alle giovani studentesse dell'università.

"La mattina dell'attentato - racconta mons. Zenari - suor Rima aveva meditato il passo in cui Gesù scaccia i demoni, confessando a Dio di essere disposta a offrire la sua vita se il suo sacrificio poteva alleviare le sofferenze della popolazione siriana. Dopo la preghiera, le due religiose sono uscite per la quotidiana visita alle famiglie e agli ammalati, dandosi appuntamento a casa per l'ora di pranzo". Il vescovo sottolinea che l'ultimo a veder viva suor Rima è stato il giardiniere del convento delle vicine suore carmelitane, anch'esso situato a poche decine di metri dall'università. Intorno alle 12, l'uomo stava conversando con la religiosa di ritorno dal lavoro mattutino, quando i due sono stati investiti da un muro di fuoco. Una volta riaperti gli occhi il giardiniere, rimasto ferito, ha visto intorno a sé solo macerie.

Mons. Zenari racconta commosso che i familiari e la consorella "hanno visitato tutti gli ospedali della città, sperando di trovare almeno il corpo della religiosa". Tuttavia "la maggior parte delle salme estratte dalle macerie sono irriconoscibili. Per avere un riscontro si dovrà procedere all'esame del Dna".

Il nunzio sottolinea che suor Rima è la prima religiosa cattolica vittima della guerra. "Purtroppo essa è una delle tante vite spezzate da questa carneficina, che sta devastando la vita di tutta la popolazione siriana senza distinzione di credo, etnia, appartenenza politica". "La situazione  - aggiunge - è drammatica: chi non muore sotto le macerie dei bombardamenti o nelle sparatorie, sopravvive con difficoltà. Ad Aleppo, come in altre città della Siria, manca tutto: luce, gas, cibo, medicinali. Per scaldarsi, la gente taglia gli alberi dei giardini pubblici".  "Il giorno dell'attentato all'Università di Aleppo - continua il nunzio - altre 120 persone sono morte in sparatorie, bombardamenti, omicidi sommari in altre province della Siria. In totale 216 vittime in un solo giorno. Queste cifre fanno ormai parte della nostra quotidianeità. I media non si stupiscono più.
